CAROLYN ANN HANNA
On September 3, 2015 Carolyn A. Hanna of Carroll Lutheran Village, Westminster, MD. passed away at the age of 84. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Robert Hanna, her devoted son, Glenn R. Hanna and his wife, Catherine, grandsons Brentt and Brad and his wife, Patricia, and three great grandchildren. She retired from the Goddard Space Center in 1980.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 16th, at Carroll Lutheran Village Krug Chapel, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, MD 21158. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be directed in Carolyn’s name to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
Carolyn is remembered as a wonderful and caring woman who loved her many friends and doing for others. She enjoyed boating, water skiing, crabbing on the Severn River and the Chesapeake Bay. During the summer months she enjoyed her travel trailer in Myrtle Beach and the west coast of Florida during the winter.
She and her husband belonged to many clubs and organizations, such as the American Legion, the Lions Club and the College Park Moose Club. They formed a Walking Club in the Laurel Center Mall with over 125 walkers. The club was supported by the Mall and the city of Laurel and in November 1995 received the State of Maryland Governor’s Commission of Physical Fitness award. Carolyn was an active member of the Senior Friendship Club in Laurel serving as dance chairman, setting up and decorating for various events including their Christmas party. Their weekly bingo game was among her favorite events.
During her life Carolyn was committed to volunteer work, beginning with tap dancing in the USO during World War II. In the Moose Club she was involved in organizing the Christmas food baskets and supporting senior citizens through special Thanksgiving dinners and picnics. She and her husband sponsored fund raisers such as dinner dances that collected canned goods for admission with over 150 people in attendance. More recently, Carolyn supported Project Linus at Carroll Lutheran Village by crocheting blankets for children. She was inspired by the following quote from a mom whose children received blankets after a family crisis:
“What a powerful statement of caring you all send and comfort we all receive!”
