Life Story for Lorean Lewis Proctor

Lorean Lewis Proctor
Lorean Lewis Proctor passed away from congestive heart failure on October 23, 2016. Lorean was born on October 19, 1950 in Devereux, GA to Jimmy and Willie Mae Lewis (both deceased). She was one of 15 children. She attended local schools and graduated in 1969. After graduating she worked as a teacher’s aide in the schools she attended.
In 1996 she moved to Maryland with her two children to join other family members already relocated there. Lorean worked in various restaurants and cafes and was such a good employee that she usually became a manager within a short time frame.
There are a lot of things to praise and thank Lorean for, the but most significant one started in 1974 and continued for over 20 years. When our mother and nephew were killed in a car accident in April of 1974 Lorean raised ten of her younger siblings that were still living at home at time. At the time, she was only 24 years old and the younger siblings ranged from 3 to17 years old. Although other family members offered to take some of the siblings into their home, she chose to keep all of us together. Over the years she had help from other family members, aunts and uncles but she made it possible for us all to stay together. For this selfless act, we are eternally grateful to her.
Lorean is survived by her children, Nikki Lewis and Kevin Lewis, husband Steve Proctor, and several siblings, Irean Lewis, Johnny Lewis, Bertha Steib, and Tracy Lewis of MD; Jimmy Lewis Jr. of VA., Ernest Lewis, Willie Gaye Jones, Ethel Brown and Deborah Hoskins of GA; Patricia White of LA; and Linda Norman of FL; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
