Obituary for Stuart Russell Hancock Jr.

Stuart Russell  Hancock Jr.
Stuart Russell Hancock, Jr., 69, of Finksburg, MD, passed away on February 9, 2017 at the Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy, MD. He was born in Stamford, CT, on February 19, 1947. He was the son of the late Stuart and Dorothy (Madison) Hancock and the devoted husband of Beverly Marlowe-Hancock.

Stu grew up along the Jersey Shore in Manasquan, NJ. He was a Boy Scout and earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Scouting. Stu served his country honorably in the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. After leaving the service he attended Monmouth University and received a BA in Social Work. He was the Director of the Homeless Outreach Program of Prologue, Inc. a program dedicated to improving the lives of homeless individuals and families across Baltimore County. Stu was devoted to the people he helped serve. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking and crafted unique pieces of furniture for his family and friends. His family remembers him as a man who was passionate about his life's work and who loved to laugh and spend time with family and friends. He will be missed by many.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his son, Carl Hancock; his daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Brian DeOliveira; daughter, Crystal Tennant; and seven grandchildren. Stu is also survived by a sister, Kathy Hancock-Sadowski. He was predeceased by his other sister, Priscilla Rose.

A celebration of Stu's life will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Saint James United Methodist Church - 12470 Old Frederick Rd, Friendship, MD
