She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader, Sunday School teacher and Youth Leader, and did volunteer work at hospitals, nursing homes, and for home-bound patients. She was raised and confirmed in the Church of Christ in Strasburg, Ohio and became a member of Winfield United Methodist Church upon marriage and then a member of Church of New Hope in Dover, OH. When she moved to Maryland, she attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Hampstead with her family. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and was a collector of birdhouses.
