Obituary for Casimir Aloysius "Cas" Raszewski

Casimir Aloysius "Cas" Raszewski
Casimir (Cas) Aloysius Raszewski, 90, of Pikesville, passed away on August 12, 2017.

Cas was born on May 31, 1927 in Philadelphia to Henry K. Raszewski and Aniela (Angela) Wszolek both immigrants from Poland through Ellis Island. He was one of 10 children.

In 1944, Cas entered the seminary at the Oblates of St Francis De Sales and received one year of religious training. Next he studied at both the Catholic University in DC and Niagra University. He also taught World History at North Catholic High School.

In 1952, he re-evaluated his calling and enlisted in the United States Air Force serving for 15 years and then he began working at NSA in the intelligence community, excelling in 7 different languages. After his retirement from NSA in 1982, he was a substitute teacher and tennis coach at Smithsburg High School and then taught English for two summers in Poland.

Cas married Genevieve (Jeanne) Kliwinski of Trenton, NJ in 1952. During their 42 years of marriage, they had 6 children who were born all over the world. Jeanne predeceased Cas in 1994. Cas is survived by one sister, Wanda Wartski. He is also survived by his children Mark, James and his wife Dawn, Steven and his wife Teresa, Vicki, Gary and his wife Joanne, and David and his wife Sue along with 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Cas married Rita Jones in 1997. They traveled together all over the world and recently celebrated 20 years of marriage. She lovingly cared for him during his recent illness. He is also survived by Rita’s 4 children, Roswell (Eddie) Jones, Jo Ann Robbins, Joyce Raszewski, and Peter Jones along with 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Cas was always active in the community. In his early years, he worked with the Glen Burnie Rebel Youth Football Organization. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church where he attended mass daily. He enjoyed reading, traveling, tennis, classical music, chess and many other board games. He was a history buff, and he was an avid Orioles and Ravens fan. He attended every sporting event possible for all his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed many fun times with Rita and family and friends at their condo in Ocean City.

Cas was extremely generous, loving and kind. He could bring a smile to anyone he met. He cherished, nurtured and understood the importance of family, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
