Melvin Lee "Mel"  Toups
Melvin "Mel" Lee Toups, 78, of Hampstead, passed away suddenly on Friday, November 10, 2017 at his home. Born June 30, 1939 in Nunez, LA, he was the son of the late Nelson and Josephine (Rageur) Toups. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy Ruth (Shaffer) Toups, his wife of 55 years.

He proudly served in the US Air Force. He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hampstead Lions Club, Westminster Elks Lodge #2277, and the Hampstead American Legion Post 200. He loved watching basketball, Ravens football, camping and gardening.

Surviving in addition to his wife is son, David P. Toups of Hampstead; daughter, Sharon L. McClernan and husband Brian of Westminster; sisters, Helen Bourque and husband John of Lake Charles, LA, Betty Butts of Westlake, LA; brother, Leo "Jay" Toups and wife Iris of Southaven, MS. Also survived by 6 grandchildren and 5 greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers Harry J. Toups, Pervis Toups and Halphen (Toby) Toups.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm & 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at ELINE FUNERAL HOME, 934 S. Main Street, Hampstead, MD. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017, 10:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mt. Zion United Methodist Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Carroll Hospital Center, 200 Memorial Ave, Westminster, MD 21157.
