Life Story for Joanna Hastings-Kiessling

Joanna  Hastings-Kiessling
Joanna Hastings-Kiessling, 57, of Owings Mills, MD passed away. She was born on March 15, 1960 in Baltimore, MD to Shirley (nee King) Hastings and the late Thomas F. Hastings.

She was certified as a Master Naturalist (Irvine Nature Center) and Master Gardener (Cylburn Arboretum) She founded a small nonprofit called biodiveris-it. Its mission was propagating high biodiversity understory, shrub and herbaceous plants for donation for public open space. Her projects included bringing native meadows and understory vegetation to school campuses and donating seeds and grown natives.

She is survived by her daughter Faith H. Kiessling of Columbia, MD; sister Nancy Hastings Rueter of Glenwood, MD; mother Shirley Hastings.

Family will receive friends at the Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, MD on Sunday, February 4, 2018, 1pm to 2pm at which time a funeral service will begin. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed towards either the Hastings-Kiessling Fund hosted by NeighborSpace of Baltimore County Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring green open spaces with the native plants Joanna dearly loved, or a Gofund me dedicated to creating a memorial native meadow in her honor.
