Lucy Belle  Harrell (Haynes)
Lucy Belle Haynes Harrell died Monday June 18, 2018 at the Dove House. Born June 26, 1934 in High Point, NC, she was the daughter of the late Colon and Mildred Swaim Haynes. She had 3 brothers, Joseph H. Haynes, Ronald A Haynes and C. Wayne Haynes, Jr. A graduate of Hasty High School, she received her B.A. from High Point College (now High Point University), and did further work towards her Masters at Towson University and the University of Maryland.

Lucy married Stanley G. Harrell on March 15, 1959. She is survived by her husband and their children Charles L. Harrell and Patricia Harrell Daugherty; grandchildren, John and Nicholas Harrell, Phillip Daugherty and Mindy Daugherty Dehority.

Lucy was a born teacher and taught elementary grades in Guilford County, NC and Washington, Carroll and Prince George's Counties, Maryland. She was known for being able to help students with learning disabilities and those with discipline problems, helping other teachers as grade leader, and making fabulous bulletin boards.

A devout Christian, she was a hard worker for the church and had a local preacher's license for more than 55 years. She served on a mission team to Cuba in 1956 before Castro took over the country. She taught church school classes and served as chair for different church committees over the years. She had also been an annual conference lay member. When she retired from teaching, she set up libraries in four different churches and guided other churches in setting up their libraries.

She was an avid reader, loved to cook and was especially known for her baking. She liked working in her yard, cultivating house plants and doing embroidery. She loved her grandchildren beyond measure and did for them as she was able.

Lucy liked to travel and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Social Order of the Beauceant, and the Retired Teachers Association.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 21, 2018 from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. at ELINE FUNERAL HOME, 934 S. Main Street, Hampstead, where services will be held on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 2 p.m. Interment in Wesley UM Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Wesley United Methodist Church, 3239 Carrollton Road, Hampstead, MD 21074; or to Dove House, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
