Obituary for Janet Schaefer (Parks)

Janet Schaefer (Parks)
Edith “Janet” (nee Parks) Schaefer, 97, passed peacefully into the light of the Lord on June 19, 2018. Janet was the daughter of the late William B. and Myrtle L. (nee Chilcoat) Parks. She was married to the late Charles (Chuck) F. H. Schaefer for 62 years. She is survived by all four children; Janet Lynn McMahan of Vienna, IL (married to Michael P. McMahan) and two children, Philip and Heather, C. Parks Schaefer of New Bern, NC (married to Mary R. Short) and three children, Charcillea, Charles and MaryLynne, R. Lee Schaefer of Hampstead, MD (widower of the late Robin A. Watson) and Mark V. Schaefer of Hampstead, MD (married to Robyn E. Fuhrman) and two children, Laura and Emily. Also surviving Janet are her eight great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Caleb, Margaret, Christian, Charles, Emily, Mattison and Mason. Janet was predeceased by infant twin sister, Ruth Alloway Parks, and brother, John W. Parks.
Janet was born in the Baltimore County Alms House, run by her grandfather, in 1921. She grew up on a dairy farm in Cockeysville, graduated Towson High School in 1938, married her high school sweetheart, Charles F. H. Schaefer in 1943. He went to war in the China-Burma-India Theater, she went to work in Cockeysville, eventually ending up as Dr. Walter T. Kees, ‘Girl Friday’ until he sold his practice (and her!) to J. Alan Baldanza, MD. Retiring with Chuck in 1981, they motorhomed throughout the States, capping their extensive travel with a five-month tour across Canada, the Pacific Northwest and into Alaska in 1993. Interspersed with motorhome travels were trips to Great Britain, Turkey, and a month-long Euro rail excursion across Europe in concert with Chuck’s P-47 Fighter Group Reunion in France. They stopped traveling in 1997 and remained in Hampstead, MD until Chuck’s passing in 2005. Janet moved to Carroll Lutheran Village (CLV), Westminster, MD later that year and lived in independent housing until shortly before her passing at Golden Crest Assisted Living in Hampstead, close to two sons and their families.
A Memorial of Life Service will be held at Carroll Lutheran Village Chapel, 300 Saint Luke Circle, Westminster, MD 21158, on June 30, 2018 at 1:00PM, with interment to follow at 3:00PM at Jessops Methodist Church, 14021 York Road, Sparks, MD 21152.
