Obituary for Ray McKinley Miller

Ray McKinley Miller
Ray McKinley Miller, 90, passed away July 24, 2018 at the home of his daughter, Robin in Levittown, PA. Ray was born August 8, 1927 in Accident, MD. He was loved and raised by his mother, Ada Upole, grandmother and grandfather, “Preacher” Sam Miller. From humble beginnings in farming and timber cutting, he joined the Army during WWII and served honorably until January 1950. He married Irene Resh in February 1950.
Eventually Ray moved to Baltimore County with Irene and two children, Donna Rae and Bonnie Kae, as the caretaker of a large estate. His daughter, Robin and son, Michael were born. Ray became a fireman with the Baltimore County Fire Department. His wife, Irene the love of his life, passed away in 1984.a few years later he retired from the Baltimore County Fire Department and moved to Abingdon, MD. He began volunteering at the Elementary School where two of his grandchildren attended and spent the next 20+ years volunteering every day for the Harford County Schools. They offered to put him on the payroll but Ray said, “No, getting paid would just mess everything up. I’m just doing it for the children.” For many years the school declared a “Mr. Ray Day” and held an assembly for him, which included cards from every child.
Ray had countless friends throughout his life, always remaining humble, selfless and loving.
In 2014 Ray moved to Willards, MD with his daughter Donna Rae and family. In Aril 2018 he moved to his daughter Robin’s house in Levittown, PA.
To the very end Ray remained a true man of God, from his earliest childhood teachings and a friend to anyone who touched his path.
