Condolence From: John Piper
Condolence: I only knew Jim in high school and the neighborhood as we were neighbors growing up.
Always a great guy, and lots of good times running around the neighborhood.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the family. So sorry for the loss.

Condolence: Jim had an amazing smile and a genuine heart. He was adverturesome. One memory involving Jim was years ago during a family vacation at the Outerbanks. Jim especially drove his pick-up truck on the trip so he could drive on the northern portion of the beach. He invited my husband, Clay, and me to join he and Billie Jo on a drive on the beach. We reached the beach and we had the windows of the truck rolled down. Jim got out of his truck to deflate the tires, he climbed back in, then he pressed on the gas pedal. It was NOT a smooth ride, rather the ride was like crashing against high and rough waves in a boat and each impact was loud and rattling and if the truck would fall apart. Observing Jim from partially closed eyes, he looked fearless having a huge smile on his face and appearing totally relaxed while having his left arm resting on the metal of the open truck window. My fear lifted at that moment and was replaced with pure joy and laughter. This memory, a gift of pure joy and laughter from Jim, in that special ride lasts forever. (Jim served in the Marines and toured Desert Storm driving convoys of supplies across the sand. He was fearless and at home on the sand.) Jim was a very proud Marine and during family and friend gatherings, somehow all of the proud (and rightly so) Marine veterans and servicemen were like magnets finding each other instantly and hanging out together the entire time. Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of Jim here on earth and please take extra good care of Jim in Heaven and bring comfort and strength to his family and to all those who mourn him.
