Life Story for Bryan Paul Fitzgerald

Bryan Paul  Fitzgerald
Dr. Bryan Paul Fitzgerald, 55, of Reisterstown, passed away Tuesday November 20, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 22, 1963 in Alexandria, Virginia and raised in Baltimore County, Maryland, he was the son of the late Paul and Kay Ward Fitzgerald. He was the devoted husband of Elizabeth M. K. Fitzgerald, his wife of 29 years.

After graduation from Delany High School he attended Towson University. During his time at the University he was an active brother of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in 1986 from Towson University, Dr. Bryan Fitzgerald earned his doctor of dental surgery degree, magna cum laude, in 1990 from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He completed his general practice residency in 1991 and was chief resident from 1992 to 1993 at the Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He also served as clinical instructor for the Department of Restorative Dentistry, University of Maryland School of Dentistry from 1993 to 1995. In 1997, he earned his certification in periodontics from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.

Dr. Bryan Fitzgerald practiced periodontics and periodontal implant prosthetics, with an emphasis on implants and esthetic periodontal surgery. He served as a faculty member at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, for Advanced General Dentistry and the Department of Periodontics. He was the Chief of Implant Dentistry at the University of Maryland Department of Advanced General Dentistry. He has received various honors and awards, including the Harry B. Schwartz Award, the American Academy of Periodontology Award, the Alexander H. Patterson Medal, the Nathan Gold Memorial Award and a clerkship in the Department of Periodontics from 1989 to 1990.

He was a Diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontics and was an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology and the Academy of Osseointegration. Dr. Bryan Fitzgerald was a member of the American Dental Society, Baltimore County Dental Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society, Gorgas Odontological Honor Society and Gamma Pi Delta Honor Society. Dr. Bryan Fitzgerald was partial owner of and practiced at Feldman, Fitzgerald, & Choe, D.D.S., P.A in Towson, Maryland.

He filled his time with many hobbies and he was passionate about athletics and competition, both in participating and observing. Through his many team sports, lacrosse, football, and later tennis and paddle tennis, his mantra was “never let your team down.” He also enjoyed skiing, running in marathons and participating in triathlons. He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Ravens and held season tickets from 1998 to present. One of his greatest passions was spending time on the water and at his second home on the Eastern Shore. He found great joy in spending hours fishing on his beloved boat and days on Assateague Island.

Dr. Bryan Fitzgerald loved his family with the same exuberance and passion he gave to all aspects of his life. Bryan was a loving partner and devoted and proud dad. He found great joy in raising their daughters and providing for his family. He passed on his love of sports, coaching his girls’ athletic teams for years. He dutifully attended their extracurricular activities, helped with homework and taught them so much from how to fish, to how to never give up, and especially how to live an inspired and purposeful life. He always felt that his family was his biggest accomplishment and that family conquers all.

In addition to his wife, Bryan is survived by his two daughters, Sarah K. Fitzgerald Sacco and her husband Ryan Sacco of Jersey City, NJ and Hailey Joy Fitzgerald and her longtime boyfriend Matthew Hughes of Towson, MD; two brothers, Patrick Fitzgerald and his wife Eileen of Towson, MD and Michael Fitzgerald and his late wife Kathleen of Eldersburg, MD; sister, Shawn Best and her husband Rick of Wilmington, NC; his stepmother Dolores Hansen Fitzgerald of Fairhaven, MA; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins nieces, and nephews.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2018, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul's School Chapel, 11152 Falls Road, Brooklandville, MD with the Rev. Mark Stephenson officiating. A Celebration of Life will follow at L'Hirondelle Country Club, 7611 L'Hirondelle Club Road, Ruxton, MD 21204.
