Cynthia Lou Vollman died peacefully Tuesday, October 20, 2015 in Madison, Wisconsin after a year of declining health.

She was born the daughter of Louis Rosscamp Vollman and Ethel Grace Bush on July 20, 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland. The granddaughter of Dr. Edgar Murray Bush and Ida Florence Little she resided with them in Hampstead Maryland as an adolescent, graduating from Hampstead High School with the Class of 1951.

She was much beloved and will be missed by her friends and family. Cynthia was a talented, brilliant and artistic individual who used her creativity and caring nature to serve others. She was a lifelong seeker of knowledge earning a Registered Nurse degree from Cook County Hospital Nursing School, a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Oregon State University-Corvallis and a master's degree in education from the University of Maine-Orno. She was the founder and owner of The New England Spice Trade shop in Ellsworth, Maine. Because it was a gift shop that specialized in coffee, tea and spices, Cynthia became known by local residents of the Acadia National Park region as "The Spice Lady." Cynthia was also the proprietor of the Windhaven Inn, Bar Harbor, Maine from 1978-2003. In 2004 she retired to Madison, Wisconsin where she enjoyed the company of her family and also enjoyed volunteering with charities including those cooking for the homeless.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers Rosskamp Bush Vollman and Louis Warren Vollman, who changed his name to Warren Vollman Bush and had a notable career in television news and documentary film production. She was also preceded in death by her half-sister Pamela Ann Jones.

Cynthia Lou Vollman is survived by her three daughters, Elizabeth Suzan Roberts, Cynthia Katherine Grace Roberts, a.k.a Cynthia Bush Everitt, and Paulette Ann Roberts. She is also survived by her half sister Prudence Ellen Cooney.

She will be interred at the Bush family burial plot in Hampstead Cemetery in Hampstead, Maryland. Visitation is scheduled for October 31, 2015 from 9:00am-10:30am at ELINE FUNERAL HOME, 934 S. Main Street, Hampstead, Maryland 21074. A graveside ceremony will follow.
