Obituary for Portia Allen Spamer (McLaughin)

Portia Allen  Spamer (McLaughin)
Mrs. Portia Allen Spamer, formerly of Union Bridge, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2018, at the Dove House in Westminster with her loving family at her bedside.
Born September 1, 1923, she was the daughter of the Rev. Richard and Inez McLaughlin of West Hartford, Connecticut. She also the younger sister of the noted composer, Beatrice McLaughlin.

She attended the Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut and following graduation and the advent of World War II, she went to work as a secretary in the defense industry. Following the war, she settled into the life of a homemaker, which she cherished.

Pam, as family and friends knew her, had a life of experiences and adventure, the memories of which she loved sharing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a great love of flowers and all animals with a special love of horses.

Until recently, she had been active with several groups including the D.A.R, D.A.C, Navy League, several garden clubs and church.

She was pre-deceased by her husband Daniel Bruce Spamer, and a son, James Bruce Spamer. She is survived by son, Duncan McKee and daughter in law Georgianna McKee of Franconia, NH, daughter Sarah Cappapdora and son in law William Cappapdora of Manchester, MD and son Daniel Richard Spamer of Brownsfield, ME. Grandchildren Dwight Spielman and wife Shannon, Miles Cady, Jessica Gorniac, Austin Harris and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be private.
