Obituary for William Paul "Bill" Kelly Jr.

WIlliam Paul Kelly Jr, 74, of Manchester, passed away in his home on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. Born November 1, 1944 in Frostburg, MD, he was the son of Antoinette Urbas Kelly of Lonaconing, MD and the late William Kelly. He was the beloved husband of Jeanne Kelly, his wife of nearly 50 years. Bill received his bachelors degree from Frostburg State. He continued his education at Morgan State University, where he earned a Masters degree. In the mid 1960ʼs he moved to Westminster, MD, where he began his career teaching Social Studies at North Carroll Middle High School. He was deeply admired by many of his students, many of whom he remained friends with to this day. During his teaching career he became interested in investments and became a member of the North Carroll Investment Club.

In the mid 1970ʼs he enrolled in a class in New York City in order to become a licensed Stockbroker. His investment career began after accepting a position with Merrill Lynch. During this time he took over as advisor for the North Carroll Investment club, a role which he held for many years. He was also advisor for the Westminster Investment Club, a position he took very seriously. He continued his investment career with Ferris Baker Watts Inc. for decades to follow. As a Stockbroker, he was what one would refer to as a grinder. He was conservative in his decision making and always put his clients best interest first. He was not interested in high risk/high reward opportunities. He valued every cent he helped his clients earn, with whom he remained in regular contact. For this reason, he was held in high regard by those he tirelessly advised and was well respected in his field. His clients, many of whom he also referred to as friends, continued to seek out his advice years after his retirement. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a hobby he shared with his son Michael. He loved the outdoors and spent a considerable amount of time in his cabin in West Virginia with friends and family. He also spent countless vacations and holidays with his entire family in Chincoteague Virginia. He had a keen interest in history, particularly World War II. In recent years he enjoyed traveling the globe with his wife, Jeanne, and was able to visit Normandy, a particular place of historical interest to him. He also had an enormous love for dogs, a trait he passed down to both of his children. He had many friends from all walks of life and was very generous to those he cared for. He will be sorely missed.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother is son, Michael F. Kelly of Glen Rock PA; daughter, Kristine M. Kelly of Reisterstown, MD; brother-in-law Steve Arnold of Hanover, PA and several nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 26th, 2018 from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main Street, Hampstead, with services to follow at 6:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation in his name.
