Obituary for Harold Donald Leddy

Harold Donald Leddy
Harold Donald Leddy, 90, of Reisterstown, passed away on January 1, 2019. He was born in New York, NY on August 9, 1928 to the late John and Rose (nee Crell) Leddy. He was married to Stephanie M. Leddy.

Hal had a long and varied life from growing up in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen working his father’s newspaper stand to relaxing on the deck in Reisterstown. He graduated first in eighth grade and went to Strober-Miller Technical School. There he learned about electrical schematics and how to wire a house, information that would serve him well in his later career.

He left high school to join the Navy. He served on the USS Saginaw Bay and earned his GED. Playing football, running track & joining Sig Ep were part of his Florida State experience. With his MA from Columbia, he taught and coached in Georgia before working 28 years for A T & T’s Western Electric.

He designed and engineered telephone offices. On loan to Bell Labs, he engineered mobile communication units for the Army in Vietnam. Then he worked on the encrypted communication system for the ABM program. On a trip out to the Marshall Islands to oversee tests of the missile, he stopped in Oahu, Hawaii and meet his future wife on the beach. That meeting would change their lives forever.

After the Labs, he went back to the line overseeing a group of engineers. In 1977, as a senior engineer, he went to teach advanced engineering at the Corporate Education Center for two years and decided to return to MD and his group. He retired with 28 years of service to spend time with his kids, cook, travel, play more golf, go to the track and become skilled at painting watercolors.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Stephanie, his children Harold, Matthew, Marc, John and Bethany and his grandchildren Nicholas, Alexander, Daria, Gregory, Addison, Jaden, Hayden, Liza Jayne and Ella.

Family will receive friends at the Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, MD on Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 3-5 & 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019, 12:30pm at the funeral home. Interment in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery.
