Joseph LeRoy Patterson, 84, of Finksburg, MD passed away at home on January 9, 2019, from complications from a 3rd stroke on August 19, 2018, He was born September 5th, 1934 and was the youngest of 8 to Howard F. and Hilda C. V. Mellinder Patterson. He was the beloved husband of Shirley A. Wilson Patterson for 55 years.
Surviving besides his wife are daughters: Marie Denise and Shawn Bays, Dr. Karen Whitney Patterson and fiancé Brian Jones and Kelley P. Patterson and fiancé Wayne White; brother, Howard Patterson and sister, Catherine Simpers. He was predeceased by sisters: Lola Sellers, Cora Ruby and Mable Rosier; brothers, Preston and Oliver Patterson.
He attended Sparks High School. He was a life member of the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company. He was a Veteran and served in the Army during the Korean War from June 1954 to 1956. He worked for several Electrical Contractors before his employment with the State of Maryland as an electrician, and eventually as a Building Construction Inspector III before retiring in 1996. He enjoyed repairing lawn mowers and small engines and it was nothing to see several friends and neighbors in the garage waiting to see if he could repair their motors. They always left happy. He loved hanging out with our Friends in Low Places Country Western Dance Group and shared many, many wonderful memories with them.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm & 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Eline Funeral Home – 2901 Bloom Rd, Finksburg, MD. A Celebration of Joseph’s Life will be held on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 12:00pm at the Funeral Home. A private family interment will be held in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
