Life Story for Elaine Marie Lamana (Pellegrini)

Elaine Marie Lamana (Pellegrini)
Elaine Lamana was born Elaine Marie Pellegrini to John and Madeline Pellegrini (nee Michelina Chinquina) in Baltimore on August 30, 1930. She was the youngest and last surviving of four amazing sisters: Carmela Clayton, Mary Hine and Norma Bell all pre-deceased her.

She is survived by her daughter, Norma Jean DaCrema, and her grandson, Paul, as well as her beloved nieces Jo-Ann Santos, Michael Hanlon (her god-daughter), Jeanne Sandweg and Susan Buckley, a nephew, David Bell, his kids Michael, John and Sarah, and all of her cherished great-nieces and nephews: Natalie Santos, Kathleen Hanlon, Emily Santos, Richard Santos, Michael Hanlon, Katie Haas, Annie Knezevic, Billy Sandweg, John Sandweg, and all of their wonderful husbands, wives and children. She is also survived by her godchildren, Elizabeth and Philip DaCrema.

When Elaine retired in 1992, she had worked for the Federal government for more than 40 years, including Andrews Air Force Base and, for most of that time, the Social Security Administration Office of Public Inquiry at the headquarters in Woodlawn. She was proud of her many achievements on the job, the political leaders she met, and especially her work in the “Black Lung” division servicing people hardest hit by that disease (she could still remember the names of the many families she helped). An entertaining storyteller and sometime creative writer, Elaine loved parties and happy times with her sisters and nieces, and she loved her dog Roger and many, many spoiled cats over the years, but especially Ida, the calico cat who never left her side. She loved her stamps, her crossword puzzles, and her hundreds of records and CDs of music of the 1940s through the ’80s. She loved old movies, especially musicals and horror movies, and cherished her memories of good times with her dearest friends Lita Drapkin, Josephine Kelly, Claire Norjen, Joyce Walsh, Denise Jones, and Joseph DaCrema, her wonderful son-in-law and world-travel companion, who passed away in 2017. She took enormous pride in every achievement of her daughter Norma and her grandson, Paul, even their lame ones. Even years of advancing dementia could not eclipse her joy and sweet temper. She was an extraordinarily good and strong person.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the wonderful staff of Seasons Hospice (Pennsylvania). Without Sue, Dominika, Jackie--and of course her own nurse, Yvonne--her last year would not have included the many happy moments it did. Paul and I will miss you forever, Grandma. Now there are enough sisters for a good game of pinochle again.

Family will receive friends at the Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, MD on Monday, February 25, 2019 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
